New Year’s Eve

After a day of workshops, a group of GEOS students gathered in Boston to bring in the New Year together. They took advantage of the GEOS location and started the night on Boston Common where they enjoyed the ice sculptures, fireworks, and an incredible snowball fight. The GEOS students were able to enjoy all that Boston has to offer on the last night of the year. Goodbye 2009! Hello 2010!

Christmas Eve

This year, students at GEOS Boston celebrated the winter holidays in style. In the morning, students gathered to watch a Christmas and winter-themed movie. The sights and sounds of the movie spurred a lot of questions about the season, and the movie was followed by a mini class-discussion. After lunch, the students and staff participated in an old-fashioned “Yankee Swap.” Students and staff brought in presents to put under the GEOS tree, and the staff gave out the numbers that decided when the student would get to pick a present from the tree. The students opened the gifts one by one, and traded them for gifts they liked better. The presents ranged from bracelets to picture frames, and Garfield dolls to a copy of “Supersize Me.” Roberta Versiani got the lucky number one, and was able to pick from all the open presents at the end of the swap. Everyone went home with a merry reminder of their Christmas Eve at GEOS. The party wound down with an array of games like “Guess Who?” and “Scrabble”.

Martin Luther King Day

On the third Monday of January each year, the United States celebrates the life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. King was a major player in the United States civil rights movement. He stood for nonviolent activism and protested racial discrimination, leading the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955 as well as the famous March on Washington in 1963. It was at this march that King delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, inspiring those in attendance as well as future generations. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his work to end racial segregation and discrimination. King was assassinated on April 4th, 1968, and this holiday was established in 1986.

GEOS Boston creates a fun learning experience for students from around the world by hosting many different events and activities. While at GEOS, students can experience Boston and its surrounding communities first-handEvery month we organize two to three events per week. These weekly activities vary by season. Some examples of these activities include picnics, billiards, city tours, and more! Please click the picture below to view and download our current social calendar:

One of our students, Omar Zhanyshov, performed in the “New Wave 2008” singing competition in Jurmala and received a Golden Star prize. Russian hair designer and singer Sergey Zverev
complimented Omar, saying he was the only person properly dressed for the competition. Omar was critical of his own performance, saying he had to make some last minute adjustments to his song, but we at GEOS are very proud of his accomplishments!

eriI had a really really great experience during this three-month internship. The most wonderful point was that I could experience the job, and mainly focused on marketing. I really appreciate all of staff and teachers. You were so kind and spent a lot of time taking care of me. Especially, Steffie told me important information about marketing. I could figure out my future job and determined that I will work in a marketing position. Thank you so much!

Since I came here, I had lots of valuable and wonderful experiences both in Boston and GEOS. I met lots of people in GEOS that come from all around the world. Besides English, I met with different cultures, traditions and also
delicious foods. The staff and teachers are really helpful and friendly. I appreciate them all and I am happy to choose Boston GEOS.

chrisMy experience in GEOS was great. I had a really good time here and I met a lot of cool people. The teachers in GEOS are outstandingly enthusiastic, proficient and uncompromising in the pursuit to bring quality education to the students. If I had to describe GEOS in one word, I would say, “Outstanding”. I had a wonderful time and I learned a lot of new things and cool words.
If every English student came to GEOS, the world would be a better place.

GEOS, a very special place to learn with fun! I really improved my English level a lot and now I feel proud of my school, my teachers and all the staff. I have a lot of things to be thankful for, just thank U GEOS. I hope to come back some day to practice and remember the language, it was a beautiful time that I spent in Boston (looks better in summer), but it was really worth it…
