Beginner - Low Intermediate

Welcome to GEOS! This level focuses on developing basic communication skills. Although four areas of language learning will be covered (speaking, listening, reading, writing), the focus of the course will center on developing speaking and listening abilities with the purpose of engaging in a basic conversation in Spanish. The course will enable students to interact and experience various aspects of Hispanic culture. Students will be introduced to Hispanic culture and will develop an understanding of Spanish speaking people while developing Spanish-language skills. Attendance at Thursday evening Communication Laboratory is recommended, but optional.

High Intermediate - Advanced

In this course, students will be able to use the basic language skills they learned in the beginning level course and extend that knowledge and usage to more complicated settings. They will learn how to navigate increasingly more complex interpersonal exchanges that are relevant to them. In this level students understand and appreciate other cultures by comparing social behaviors and values. To this end, students acquire communicative language skills that allow them to express more complex concepts such as morals and ethics, to give and respond to complements, to express themselves demonstratively, and to express urgency. In addition, they will extend their oral and grammatical skills and will have a lot of opportunities to practice them in authentic communicative contexts. Attendance at Thursday evening Communication Laboratory is recommended, but optional.
